Goodbye to my lovely Elicos 2 students!

Dear Elicos 2 students,

Thank you for your hard work over the past five weeks, and for making my job so enjoyable.

I will miss you all!

I hope that you can rest and relax this weekend, before the new intake begins next Tuesday!
The very best of luck with your future studies.

2B MODULE : ARGUMENT
Some students are interested to find out a little about Module 2B (the next course) so I have included a few tips, notes and websites for you here.

Of course, when you think of the word 'argument' you think of the following:

HOWEVER - when we talk about ARGUMENT in an academic (study) environment, it is a little different.
So, what is an ‘argument’ in an academic environment ??

= A discussion about a topic (written or spoken) in which reasons are given for and against an idea or proposal. There is specific argument language and techniques which you will study next week.
Here are some example Argument Essay topics to help you understand:
  • Should men get paternity leave from work when their wife has a child?
  • Is society too dependent on computers now?
  • Should animals be used for scientific research?
  • Should cigarette smoking be banned?
  • Are cell phones dangerous?
  • Is child behaviour better or worse than it was years ago?
  • Are actors and professional athletes paid too much?
  • Do violent video games cause behaviour problems?
  • Does age matter in relationships?
  • Are there benefits to attending a single-sex school?
  • Is competition good?
  • Is fashion important?
  • Is homework harmful or helpful?
